About This Website

This site is created and served entirely by computers running the Mac OS. Some folks may find that a bit odd, given my background in Unix and DOS/Windows based systems, but it's really quite simple. These days, I'm a doctor, not a computer guru. I don't have hours to muck around with arcana. Running my servers and routers on Mac OS machines means that I can devote the few hours I have to content instead of configuration.

Though I've had a website for a long time, when PacBell brought DSL service to my neighborhood I figured it was time to move my pages in-house. What amazed me was that, with minimal effort, I was able to set up a fairly sophisticated yet simple to maintain distributed server solution for free -- an important consideration for a cash-strapped resident.

If you're thinking about implementing your own server, read about the software and configuration I'm using. It might give you some ideas for implementing your own system. You can start with a TidBITS article I wrote describing how I set up my original server configuration. Date created: August 14, 1999
